Exclusive Bridal Designer Event

Melanie James Bridal contacted me through Twitter’s #weddinghour on Wednesday, and asked if I knew any brides who would like to attend their beautifully exciting event at their boutique on Saturday 7th December 2013. When I learnt that there will be lots of beautiful handmade items there I couldn’t resist but share the news. I’m handing the blog over to Melanie for all of the details…

At Melanie James, we currently design unique handmade wedding dresses here on the leafy street of Beech Road in Chorlton Green, Manchester. Each dress is handmade by one Seamstress, on one mannequin. We are passionate about exclusive handmade designs, high quality fabric and luxurious handmade lace and trims. We also support a fabulous collection of independent in-house artists and supply a beautiful collection of handmade bridal jewellery, accessories and protective boxes to store and protect wedding dresses afterwards (which were recently featured in Mr.Selfridge). Our alterations service is very popular too, in addition to our adorable flower girl and page boy attire.

At our event on Saturday 7th December we will be welcoming a new and very exciting bridal designer to our store, Eliza Jane Howell . These designs compliment our current collection beautifully and are truly the epitome of vintage glamour. As well as showcasing the latest collections of Eliza Jane Howell this Saturday (with two models styled by Bethany Jane Davies), our in house and exclusive designers will also be on hand to advise brides and show them their very new bespoke designs. To give you a snapshot of the event, the following will be in attendance:

Horgans Luxury Vintage Cars
Bethany Jane Davies Vintage Hair and Make Up
Libby Mac Bridal Jewellery
Ophelia May
Craige Barker Wedding Photography
Lush Brownies and Cakes
Handmade Queen
Vittorio String Quartet (RNCM)

New designers to the shop include Black Ribbon Designs and Rebecca Jagger who will also be showcasing with us on Saturday 7th December. We have a fantastic community of exclusive artists, each with the talent to offer our clients a bespoke creation of their own or customisation of their current collection.

Facebook Giveaway Pretty Butterfly Necklaces

Happy Saturday all!

I’m having a little giveaway on my Facebook page at the moment and one of these pretty butterfly necklaces will be fluttering away to a lucky winner on the 18th of November.

The necklaces are made by taking the watch face out of a pocket watch style necklace and putting pretty patterned paper and butterflies inside. The little butterflies all have raised wings giving the design a 3D effect. The butterflies are embellished with gems to add some sparkle.

The necklaces have a long chain with a 40cm drop and the pendants measure 2.5cm in diameter as can be seen in the photos. They are made from base metals and are designed to be worn as costume jewellery. They will stand some minor splashing but swimming in them is not recommended.

The necklaces are handmade by me and I will be adding them to a Handmade & Hitched shop which will be coming soon. I have sold lots of these through my previous little business and family and friends have loved receiving them as birthday treats.

To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is nip over to www.facebook.com/handmadeandhitched, like the facebook page and comment on the giveaway photo stating which necklace you would like if you were to win. The three necklaces are numbered in the photo (as shown below) so you just need to say whether you would like 1,2 or 3.

I will be pulling names from a hat on Monday 18th November when one of my little creations could be on its way to you!

Good luck!

Where Can I find all that Handmade Wedding Goodness?

So where do you begin when you are looking for something unique and handmade for your special day? Well, apart from checking out this blog (of course) there are a number of online marketplaces that specialise in handmade products. I have generated a list of seven of my favourite websites below…in no particular order.
  1. Not on the High Street www.notonthehighstreet.co.uk
  2. Gift Wrapped and Gorgeous www.giftwrappedandgorgeous.co.uk
I love all of these websites for handmade goodies and all of them have a wedding section where you can find something a little bit different. From my experience as an avid shopper of handmade a lot of designer/makers on these sites are open to custom orders. For example, through Etsy and Folksy you can talk directly to the store owners and ask them if they are able to create something unique. It is a great way to get those exact little touches that you are after but can’t seem to find anywhere. Just don’t forget to check delivery times (particularly if the designer is overseas) and the time it will take for the item to be made. If you want any more information about where to find that Tiara that you have been dreaming of or the perfect little wedding favours then feel free to drop me a message below and I will do the best that I can to help.
Happy browsing!

Welcome to Handmade & Hitched

Hello all, and welcome to Handmade and Hitched (H&H), a blog discussing all things handmade and weddingy!
H&H has been set up through a passion for the bespoke and unusual and a lot of love for everything beautifully handcrafted.
Your special day should be as unique as you are and what better way is there to do that than by tapping into the minds of some of best designer-makers around?

Through H&H I aim to provide a platform for all designer-makers to showcase their beautiful wedding products and tell you just what they can do to add some extra gorgeousness to your big day. There will be plenty of crafty tutorials turning even novices into a dab hand at creating personal touches that will wow all wedding guests.Hopefully (keeping my fingers and toes crossed) you will enjoy this blog so much that you will feel compelled to write in and tell me how you added your own handmade touches to your special day. And then I will write about it, but only if you let me of course!

So if you are passionate about handmade and love all things pretty and weddingy then I suggest that you stay tuned, because I think it’s going to be very exciting!
